Review: Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion Facial

If you've been reading my blog lately, you'll know I've been struggling with hormonal, problem skin. I have managed to get a handle on it for the most part (see A Lesson in Skincare), but due to hormonal fluctuations, I do still get blemishes and also am harboring a few fine lines *sob*. Anyway, the girl who does my brows recommended the Crystal Clear facial to me after hearing me complain about my unruly skin, and I must say, I'm a hooked already!

Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion is clinically proven to dramatically improve the appearance and texture of skin, effectively tackling lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, scarring and blemishes. The resurfacing treatment smooths skin by firing out tiny little crystals onto the skin, exfoliating it right into the deepest layers and then uses a nozzle to suck them all back up, much like a vacuum cleaner. Sounds scary, but it is actually quite relaxing and you can actually feel it get to work as it's happening.

The treatment starts with a deep cleanse and tone with Crystal Clear products, then the little vacuum does its thang (it's a tiny nozzle so takes about 20 minutes to cover the face and neck), and it finishes with a brightening lotion with SPF. It is important to refrain from touching your skin too much (though it feels sooooo smooth that this is a difficult task), and you can't apply makeup or any products to the skin for at least 24 hours. As it has essentially stripped away a layer of skin, you are quite exposed to bacteria and don't want to break out.

I had my treatment in a morning, and by the evening I could see some skin around my nose was peeling slightly and that any blemishes I had when I walked into the salon had dried out and the redness had decreased. The best result of all, though, was that some pigmentation I have on my chin had become way less visible (which is something I've used so many products on to no avail in the past). The day after the treatment, my skin felt soft, sooth, plump and as I was able to wash my face again, the peeling revealed gorgeous, healthy skin! I feel like I'm starting over with lovely fresh skin!

I'll definitely be going for another Crystal Clear facial - what's your favourite facial?
