Review: Dr Zak's High Protein Peanut Spreads

Lately I've been on a huge health kick, revolutionising my eating habits, exercise and general routine. So, to kick off my new health & fitness themed blog posts, I thought I'd start by telling you about the amazing Dr Zak's High Protein Peanut Spreads, which have been making my healthy snacking so much easier!

It's long been established that an adequate amount of protein is essential in your diet, especially if you're looking to lose weight and gain muscle. Whilst I do get protein in my diet through things like beans, chickpeas and chocolate protein shakes (yum!), I am always looking to increase my intake, so when I was approached by Dr Zak's to try out their high protein spreads, I jumped at the chance.

Dr Zak's High Protein Peanut Spreads certainly have a lot to shout about. Not only are they suitable for vegetarians, they are also packed full of super high quality partially hydrolised Whey Protein Isolate. In real terms, this means that the protein is purer and faster-absorbing, which is great since every 20g serving of spread offers 7g of protein and 1g of fibre, all for a healthy 117kcal. Not only this, they are free of preservatives and nasty palm oil, which is linked to deforestation and animal cruelty. Pretty impressive, huh?

The spreads are an amazing smooth, runny consistency, making them a perfect addition to porridge, smoothies and protein shakes, as well as for baking, spreading on toast, or for using as a dip for chopped fruit! I've started adding them to my smoothies in the mornings, and I've found that they keep me full and energetic for hours after. I've also experimented with some baking, creating raw cacao energy balls with the spread that worked out very well indeed!

Now that I've covered the technical bits, the range of amazing flavours are the real star of this show. Coming in five delectable flavours, I was sent Salted Caramel and White Chocolate & Coconut, but Apple & Cinnamon, Cherry Bakewell and Fresh Raspberry all sound just as tasty! I didn't know what to expect from the taste since some protein-enhanced products can taste of, well, protein...but these really do take on the flavour they claim to, with a peanut aftertaste. Really very delicious if you're a fan of peanut butter in the first place, and I could (read: "do") just eat the Salted Caramel version straight from the tub. Amazing!

Dr Zak's also offer high protein bread, bagels and pasta - I'm in health heaven!
