Review: Piz Buin Allergy Sun Sensitive Face Cream SPF30

With the British summer slowly (very slowly!) creeping in - and the eternal importance of applying sun cream constantly drummed into me by magazines, beauty books and my mother - I thought it was about time I purchased a dedicated facial sun cream in lieu of slathering on any random greasy SPF I find in my cupboard.

Having trawled through tons of reviews of different facial sunscreens, and not quite being able to justify £31 for Kiehl's Daily UV Defense (despite temptation), I decided my allergy-prone, sensitive skin could benefit from Piz Buin's Allergy range and settled on their Sun Sensitive Face Cream with SPF30. I must say, I'm glad I didn't splurge on the Kiehl's offering, as marvellous as it seems, because Piz Buin have hit it out of the park with this one!

Combination skin mixed with sun cream does not an attractive mix make, only serving to exacerbate oil and clog pores, leaving me looking like an oil slick - not the best look, no matter how pretty the sundress or nail polish I wear with it is. Although not specifically formulated to mattify skin, the lotion consistency of the Piz Buin Face Cream sinks into the skin quickly and does not exacerbate oiliness or leave a sticky film over your skin. Instead, skin is left soft and smooth with a slight healthy-looking "sheen". Applying makeup on top of it is a dream, and it only takes a teaspoon-sized blob to cover your face and neck.

The star ingredient in this product is a thing called Calmanelle, which has antioxidant properties and works to strengthen your skin's barriers and increase its tolerance to the sun. For my sensitive skin, this is a dream come true, as the sun can leave my skin irritated and itchy, but now it just feels soft and super hydrated, and I'm safe in the knowledge that it is protected to a high level against UVA and UVB rays!

Which facial suncream do you use? I hope you are having some lovely, sunny days!
