Review: Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil Light

For a long time now I've coveted the gorgeous model Josie Maran's 100% Pure Argan Oil from her organic, cruelty-free line, and a few months ago I could resist no longer and treated myself to the light version.

My all time favourite skincare ingredient is argan oil with its naturally hydrating properties, and since this product only contains 100% argan oil it's no wonder it works so well to moisturise skin. As you'd expect, the light version is simply a featherweight version of the original formula, which still promises all the benefits but is perfect for girls with oily or combo skin like myself. However, this multi-tasker doesn't just stop at hydrating your skin - it can help to reduce fine lines, works to prevent blemishes and pigmentation, conditions and de-frizzes hair, and softens cuticles. This little gem acts as an all-in-one for so many of your skin, hair and nail concerns.

The 100% argan oil is not only natural and organic, it also contains no synthetic fragrance or parabens. If this wasn't enough, it is completely cruelty-free, recyclable and vegan. That's a pretty stellar calling card, dontcha think!

I have mostly used it as a serum after cleansing and before moisturising in the mornings, and after a few months I have seen a significant improvement in the texture, tone and appearance of my skin. I have far fewer blemishes, much much much less oil, no fine lines and a noticeably plump look to my skin. Something I will note, though, is that it did take a few months of using the product to see these kinds of results in the quality of my skin - for a while, I still had just as many blemishes as ever. However, with some perseverance, I've seen some impressive improvements and I feel like my skin is supercharged. In fact, I look forward to applying the argan oil in the mornings because it feels like I'm treating my skin and I know it will look great!

On to the more immediate effects of the oil, which has a very light texture and absorbs very quickly, and I think it's safe to say that even on my first application of the product I was pleased to see a semi-matte finish with a slight dewy glow that lasts all day. Although it is an oil, it does work to combat excessive oiliness and leaves your skin looking fresh and clear. As it helps to perfect the skin, it acts as an amazing primer - any makeup you put on top looks incredible and it really doesn't budge. I'm not just saying this for effect either, as I've had days where I've worn a full face of makeup on top of the oil for at least 14 hours (including a night out) and it has not budged an inch. Impressive, right? 

I've actually used the argan oil mostly on my skin and less on my hair and nails, where I just use it sporadically rather than as part of my routine, so I can't speak to the long-term effects in these areas.  What I can say, though, is that when I run a small amount through my hair, it is left instantly frizz-free, smooth, shiny and glossy. It definitely helps to hydrate the hair and ensure it looks in tip-top condition. As a bonus, the very subtle, sweet scent stays on your hair all day so you feel pretty damn luxurious! As for nails, it works just as well as any dedicated cuticle oil I've ever used, softening and conditioning the skin surrounding the nail, as well as leaving the nails themselves looking and feeling lovely.

This little gem is a real all-rounder and I know that I'll be repurchasing it again and again. Although it seems expensive, the dropper bottle ensures you only need a few drops per application, and at 50ml, it is sure to last a very long time.
