Summer Edit: Makeup Routine

You guys have already seen my first two Summer Edits (handbags and skincare), so today I thought I'd bring you my third, and favourite, instalment! Here is my makeup routine for the summer.

First up, a primer is really important for me in the summer, because my combination skin means makeup finds it difficult to stay put all day. I actually switch my primer all the time, but recently I have been using the 17 Photo Flawless Primer which works nicely.

On days where I want to wear very little makeup, a concealer will usually be fine to wear on its' own. For a while now, my favourite concealer for covering blemishes has been Benefit Boi-ing concealer, because it is wonderfully creamy, matches my skintone perfectly (I have shade 1) and offers high coverage. For my under eye area, I absolutely love the Maybelline Dream Touch Concealer. It perfectly covers dark circles whilst brightening the area. The effect of these two concealers together is to make my skin look blemish-free and fresh. Perfect for summer!

I'm not a huge fan of a full face of foundation in the summer, and am on an endless quest for the perfect BB or CC cream. So far, my favourite has been the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. I have the lightest shade, which matches my skin perfectly, and it has a refreshing sensation on the skin. The oil-free formula offers SPF30 and UVA/B protection - pretty impressive! It is also easy to apply and stays on for a fair amount of time, but I do make sure I use my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder to set it. As we are all well aware by now, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder is the essential powder for bloggers and non-bloggers alike!

If I want to change it up a little, I like to use the BareMinerals Original Foundation with SPF15. This silky powder is easy to apply and buff in to the skin, and looks great with a tan. It adds a very subtle glow to the skin whilst mattifying it. Applied lightly, it is perfect to achieve "no makeup" makeup. Or if my skin is looking particularly clear, often a swirl of Benefit Georgia will often brighten and mattify my face enough for me to wear it alone!

As for cheeks, bronzer is an essential for summer, but with my pale skin, it is often hard to find one that works for me. For a light bronze, I love ELF Healthy Glow Bronzer in Matte Bronze - this is the best Bronzer I've ever used, and I will buy it again and again! For a more tanned look, you can't beat Benefit Hoola, which adds a healthy tan without being orange. After my Bronzer, I like to add a tiny bit of colour to my cheeks and I find that cream blushers work best for this. Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Pink is subtle yet summery, making it the blush I reach for most on warm days.

In the summer, I want to keep my eye makeup minimal yet effective, so I use my MUA Brow Pencil in Brunette very lightly. I have said it before and I'll say it again - this brow pencil works amazingly and is so underrated, so I think everyone needs one! Depending on the day, I will often just do a subtle, neutral shadow, and follow up with a dark brown shadow to line my eyes. At the moment, I love the Barry M Trio Eyeshadow palette in Golden Goddess, which contains 3 shades that are perfect for summer! As for mascara, I love one coat of Benefit They're Real for giving me a natural looking curl.

I am all about the lips, and this is amplified in the summer when it is reasonable to wear super bright shades! I will wear anything as long as it's bright, my favourites being bright pink and bright coral. Having said this, on days where I just want to relax in my garden, I like a dab of ELF Conditioning Lip Balm with SPF15. It injects a nice colour into your lips and offers sun protection at the same time.
