Review: Avène D-Pigment Dark Spot Lightener in Light

I have problems with pigmentation on my chin, for which I am always on the look out for products to help fade them. Having recently discovered and loved some other Avène products, I had high hopes for their D-Pigment Dark Spot Lightener, and I must say, I am not disappointed!
I have the Light version for normal to combination skin, which contains a shine-reducing powder to mattify the skin. You can also buy the Rich version for dry skin, which I imagine is just more moisturising. D-Pigment is a treatment to correct brown spots and give you an even complexion.

It can be used on small or large areas of pigmentation, and contains three main ingredients to help your skin; melanyde slows down melanin production, retinaldehyde eliminates excess melanin and pretocopheryl is a powerful antioxidant. It also contains Avène Thermal Water to soothe sensitive skin. The effect of these ingredients is to fade areas of pigmentation and make your skin more even.

Application is really easy and smooth, with the nude coloured thin lotion sinking in instantly and leaving no residue or trace of it being there. I apply this every evening to my chin, but you can apply this every other evening if you have very sensitive skin that becomes flakey when you apply it. Personally, I haven't experienced any adverse side effects from using this product, despite having sensitive skin.

I have used this every evening for a few weeks now and have certainly noticed a difference in the complexion of my chin. My pigmentation is faded and the skin in general looks in a better condition and more even. I would definitely say it works best on wider, lighter areas of pigmentation than small, very dark spots. Having said this, I have seen a great improvement in all the areas of pigmentation on my chin! I am incredibly impressed.

At £35 for a 30ml tube, it does seem pricey, but it is worth remembering that you only need a very small amount of product and it does last for a long time. If you have tried other products for pigmentation with no luck, I would definitely recommend giving this a go! I will continue to use it and keep you updated on my progress via Twitter.

I have also reviewed the Avène Cleanance Mask and Thermal Water.

  2. If this was a month ago it would've shot up to the top of my wishlist as I've got some small scarring on my chin too but it has actually faded so much from using Pixi's Glow Tonic (literally after just a week's use, it's almost entirely gone). Definitely would recommend if you need an alternative after this runs out xx

  4. I'm really glad I came across this post as I have a little bit of scarring left over from the bad skin of my teenage years which I'm trying to get rid of, so thank you! I recently bought Alpha H Liquid Gold, a glycolic acid treatment which is supposed to be great for getting rid of pigmentation/acne scars etc, and I'm liking it so far, although I haven't used it enough yet to be able to tell you how effective it is.
