Review: Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Backstage

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of a matte berry lip,
so when I was sent a new Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick
in the shade Backstage I was excited to try it out.

These lipsticks aim to give a matte finish whilst still moisturising
the lips, which I think it does achieve for the most part. There is certainly
a good colour pay-off, and the matte finish is lovely and wearable. Application
is really nice, and the lipstick is actually very creamy and feels nice
on first application.

When it dries, it has a sort of powdery finish which
I am undecided about - on one hand, it doesn't necessarily feel drying,
but on the other hand it isn't exactly comfortable either. It is more like
you just haven't applied lipbalm, rather than taking anything
away from the lips. I guess it is just a personal
opinion as to how comfortable you are with slightly dry lips.

As for durability, the colour really seems to stain your lips, and so
it does last. However, as it is quite dry, you can get the dreaded line through
the middle of your lips where your natural lip colour peeks through. But it
is nothing that a touch up can't sort out.

I have found that my favourite way to wear this is to
dab it on my lips as a light stain, with a lipbalm or non-sticky
lip gloss on top. This way, you get the colour and it doesn't
feel dry...but of course it isn't matte anymore. For night time,
it is a really pretty berry colour which is easy to pull off, even
when built up to an opaque colour.

Overall, I do like these lipsticks, and they are definitely
less drying than many other matte lipsticks. It is just a shame that I
am quite strange about how things feel on my lips. Other than that, the
shade range is great, and it definitely sticks around
on your lips, not to mention the nice bullet it comes in.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipsticks cost £8.99 and come
in 20 pretty shades.
